Eyeshadow Palette Packaging: What 173 Palette Formats Actually Hold
The word “palette” covers a range of pan counts, and pan count is the one number our catalogue actually publishes. Our makeup range holds 749 formats, of which 173 have “palette” in the name. Eyeshadow palette packaging is usually discussed in terms of material and finish, and those are real questions — but they are not the questions this catalogue can answer, and pretending otherwise would be the least useful thing this page could do. So here is what the 173 entries do say, exactly, and then what they don't.
The second paragraph has to be the limit, because it is the reason the numbers below look the way they do. Each of the 749 rows in this range carries two fields: an identifier and a name. No material field, no per-item dimensions, no decoration column. Everything on this page is therefore derived from names — which makes it reliable as an inventory and silent on everything else.
What the eyeshadow palette packaging range actually contains
The 749 entries split into 40 distinct first-segment type labels. The largest is palettes, by a clear margin:
| Type label | Formats |
|---|---|
| Multi-Colour Palette | 166 |
| Lip Gloss Tube | 151 |
| Mascara Tube | 88 |
| Mascara Container | 75 |
| Lipstick Case | 74 |
| Powder Compact | 54 |
| Loose Powder Jar | 28 |
| Pen-style Container | 23 |
| Stick Container | 19 |
| Foundation Bottle | 10 |
| Round Compact | 7 |
| Cream Jar | 6 |
| Square Compact | 4 |
| Lip Gloss | 4 |
| 26 further labels | 40 |
Multi colour palette packaging is 22% of the range
The palette label alone — Multi-Colour Palette, 166 entries — is the single biggest category in the 749, at 22%. It is also bigger than the next two labels combined would need to be to matter: lip gloss tubes are 151 and mascara tubes 88, so a buyer sourcing palettes is looking at the deepest single well in the range. It is also the category where multi colour palette packaging questions get asked most often, which is why the configuration table further down is worth reading before the shape words.
One small inconsistency worth knowing. 173 entries contain the word “palette” while the Multi-Colour Palette label accounts for 166, so the remaining seven sit under other type labels. That is what you would expect from a catalogue whose names are written by hand rather than generated — and it is the reason the counts on this page are stated as label counts, not as a database schema.
Eyeshadow palette pan sizes: the specification that is published
Of the 173 palette entries, 143 carry a pan or well label in the name. The other 30 name a colour or a finish and no configuration at all — worth knowing before you assume a given listing tells you how many wells it has.
| Configuration label | Palettes |
|---|---|
| Single Pan | 19 |
| 2-Colour | 15 |
| 3-Colour | 19 |
| 4-Colour | 19 |
| 5-Colour | 19 |
| 6-Colour | 19 |
| 7-Colour | 6 |
| 8-Colour | 6 |
| 9-Colour | 14 |
| Four-Pan | 3 |
| Twelve-Well | 1 |
| Eight-Well | 1 |
| Wide Three-Well | 1 |
The four middle sizes — 3, 4, 5 and 6-colour — each appear on exactly 19 palettes. That is not a coincidence and it is the most informative thing on this page: the same 19 colourways have been laid out four different ways. If you are choosing among eyeshadow palette pan sizes, you are not choosing between four different product families. You are choosing one of four arrangements of a palette that already exists at all four sizes.
Two smaller clusters matter for different reasons. Single Pan at 19 is a full set of its own, which makes a one-shade launch a first-class option rather than an afterthought. And the long tail — 7-colour and 8-colour at 6 each, 9-colour at 14, plus one-offs at twelve wells, eight wells and three wide wells — is where an unusual layout lives. A twelve-well arrangement exists in this range exactly once. If your brief needs it, ask early, because there is no second source for it here.
Empty palette compact shapes, as far as a name goes
79 entries carry “compact” in the name, which overlaps the palette group without matching it — an empty palette compact may hold one pan or several. Shape words are the other thing names do publish, and the distribution is broad and shallow:
| Shape word | Compacts |
|---|---|
| Round | 8 |
| Square | 4 |
| Clear | 4 |
| Octagonal | 3 |
| Open | 3 |
| Slim | 3 |
| Oval | 2 |
| Twin / Stacked / Translucent / Heart-Shaped | 1 each |
Note what this list is and is not. “Round” and “Square” are shape words; “Clear”, “Translucent” and “Open” describe something else about the pack; “Slim” and “Twin” describe proportions and configuration. They share a field in the name, not a taxonomy. Read them as vocabulary a supplier used, not as a shape classification.
Capacity and footprint are expressed as bands rather than single figures, and the bands are worth reading as bands. Across the whole 749, the most common labels are 8–12 ml (49), 12 ml+ (48), 6–8 ml (40), 1–6 ml (28), 6–9 ml (24), a 42–59 mm diameter band (24), 4–6 ml (23), 30 g (21), 9–12 ml (18) and 1–4 ml (17). Some entries are described by volume and others by weight or diameter — the catalogue is not consistent about which unit it uses, and a range such as “8–12 ml” describes a family of fills rather than one exact capacity.
What an empty eyeshadow palette listing does not tell you
Four things, and they are the four questions buyers ask most.
Material is not published. Not for the body, not for the pan, not for the closure. Whether a given empty eyeshadow palette is molded in one polymer or assembled from several is not answerable from this data, and we are not going to infer it from what similar products usually use.
Dimensions are not published per item. The bands above are labels attached to names. An individual well diameter, wall thickness or overall footprint comes from the drawing, not from this file.
Decoration and hardware are not published. Finish, printing and any internal fittings are process and component choices made per project. Nothing in the 749 rows records them.
Colour count is not a number in this data. The colour names that appear are literal labels, and the catalogue distinguishes duplicates with numeric suffixes — across 1,275 label occurrences, 184 carry a suffix like the “2” in a repeated colour name. Some labels also mix colour and structure in one string. Count distinct colour names and you will overstate the palette; treat the list as a vocabulary, not a range.
Where the numbers come from
All 749 formats are on the makeup formats page. The counting method used here is the same one applied to our pen range's materials, to the five pen formats, and to solid pens and sunscreen sticks. The same enumeration applied to our bottle and jar range is on the bottles and jars page.
These formats come from the catalogue of a manufacturing partner in our network and are made to order. We do not hold them as stock and we do not quote from a table — and for this range in particular, the useful next step is not picking a listing but sending us the brief, because the specifications that decide the project are the ones the catalogue does not carry. Tell us the pan count, the fill volume and how the palette has to open, and we will come back with the drawings rather than a name. Start an enquiry → And if you want to see how we document a lot before it ships, our inspection file includes the ones we held back, not only the ones that passed: read the file →
