 Concealing under your eyes

The main purpose of any concealer is enabling offsetting of the shadows that come naturally under the eyes. In an elaborate makeup usage, it is used for highlighting certain facial areas like the tip of the nose, parts of forehead, cheekbones, or chin.

In market, concealers are found in six types of forms: stick or creamy liquid or, cream or matte-finish or matte-finish cream-to-powder or ultra-matte liquid concealers.

Stick Concealers – They are packaged in swivel kind of tubes and are applied to the required under-eye surface in a similar way to use of lipsticks.  Stick concealers provide a complete coverage, plus a better control  in reaching for each dark circle under the eyes.

Creamy Liquid Concealers – They are packaged in small squeeze kind of under eye concealer soft tube and case  or  long, thin tubes and are applied using fingers. Alternatively, a wand applicator can be used for transferring concealer to place a light coat of colour in under eye areas.  Based on consistency, they provide a light and an even coverage.

Cream Concealers – They are packaged in small pots and they have a smooth and creamy texture.  Cream concealers usually have a moist and creamy consistency. They are more popular among people with dry skin and among those who desire a larger coverage.

Matte-Finish type Liquid Concealers – They are available in a squashy under eye concealer soft tube and case  or sometimes in a squeeze type tube along with a small stick applicator. To apply these concealers, you need to use either your fingers or the stick/ wand applicator for transferring the concealer to all under eye surface areas.   Although they are not tricky to use,  they require skills for a good blending.

Matte-Finish type Cream-to-Powder – They usually are in a compact form, almost looking like a small version of the cream-to-powder type foundation product. Usage of these involves fingers or you can use sponges or  brushes. They are uncomplicated to use  and they provide a glide and bendability of the cream type concealer and the feel that a matte type concealer offers.

Ultra-Matte type Liquid Concealers – They come in slender concealer tubes with stick or wand to aid application.  These products were popular in past, but not many of these are can be seen in market presently. The factors that went against them was that they are difficult for working with.

Irrespective of your choice of concealer,  the usage is similar. Apply the colour with your fingers, the wand applicators, or the under eye concealer soft tube and case itself in a small semi-circle from the inside corner of the eye out to about one-third of the way under an eye.

Whether you apply the concealer first and then the foundation or the foundation first and then the concealer, carefully blend the concealer out and under an eye in a motion; make sure they blend well so that the edge separating concealer and foundation is not seen.
